Shannon Woodward, who played Dina in The Last of Us 2 and has acted on television in shows like Westworld and Raising Hope recently appeared on the Good Game Nice Try podcast. The discussion drifted toward BioShock settings, where Woodward put forth the idea of BioShock 4 being set in space. “Space would be dope though,” she said. “I love space in video games.” Since the original BioShock was set underwater and BioShock Infinite was set in the sky, a space setting for BioShock 4 does seem like the next logical step forward.

As it stands, very little is known about the next BioShock game, beyond that it is in development. Publisher Take-Two has established the studio Cloud Chamber for the express purpose of creating a new BioShock game, and that announcement was made in late 2019. Presumably, this means that the new BioShock has been in development for about a couple of years now, so it will likely still be some time before fans get a glimpse of it.
All three BioShock games have earned widespread critical acclaim, with particular praise given to the original BioShock and BioShock Infinite. Considering this, there is a lot that BioShock 4, or whatever it ends up being called, has to live up to. Various people who worked on the original BioShock are currently employed at Cloud Chamber, so hopefully their presence ensures that the new BioShock is faithful to the original games.
BioShock creator Ken Levine will not be involved in the development of the new BioShock, however. Levine is working with Ghost Story Games on an unannounced project, which has been kept completely secret. However, there have been some rumblings that Levine’s next game will finally be revealed this year.
It’s been eight years since the last BioShock game hit store shelves, and so fans of the franchise have been waiting a long time for a new game in the series. Not only do they have BioShock 4 to look forward to, but Ken Levine’s next game should also be of interest as well. Whether or not either one of them is set in space is not clear at the time of this writing, however.
A new BioShock game is in development for unspecified platforms.
