Monaco started strongest at Stade Louis II and were nine points up at the midway point, before stretching their lead to 60-40 by the end of the third period.

But the hosts’ form deserted them somewhat in the fourth, as Dinamo rallied to reduce the deficit to 11 and tee up a fascinating second leg in Italy next week.

The margin is the biggest of all four quarter-finals, but it should have been even better for Monaco, who were lucky not to see their advantage reduced further in the closing seconds, when Rok Stipcevic’s lay-up rimmed out.

Stipcevic scored a game-high 17 points - a record shared with Monaco’s Billy Ouattara
