Arcane follows several LoL champions many years ago in the cities of Piltover and Zaun. Intended as an origin story for mainly Vi and Jinx, other important lore in the universe will also be expanded on. Although a 2020 release date was previously announced, Riot Ghostcrawler gave an update today unfortunately stating that the animated series has been delayed for the safety of employees and partners working on the project.

Ghostcrawler explained that while production progress is still ongoing, working from home is no substitute for collaborating with teams in person. Furthermore, while online meetings are helping at the moment, technical difficulties have been magnified because of current events which have also cut down creativity. This ultimately led Riot Games along with the Fortiche Productions studio to shift Arcane’s worldwide release to 2021.

While players may be disappointed about the news, Riot promises to release more updates as Arcane gets closer to its new release date. And considering their successful 2020 track record so far, the series will definitely be worth waiting a bit longer.
